India's ONGC Videsh May Get More Oil Blocks in Sudan
Sudan News 3/10/2006
Sudan
will soon award two exploration blocks to ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL), the overseas arm of Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), its ambassador to India, Abdalmahmood Abdalhaleem, said on Thursday.

The oil and gas blocks would be given to OVL, which already has five blocks, on nomination basis, he said at an Assocham seminar here.

Abdalhaleem said the Sudanese government is also planning to award some other projects on nomination basis to Indian entrepreneurs in other key areas such as railways, information technology, tourism, and airports, he added.

India-Sudan economic relations could strengthen further provided business communities focus their attention on areas such as agriculture, IT, infrastructure, food processing, and small and medium industries, he said.

Efforts should also be made to facilitate air links between the two countries, he said. In addition, he asked Indian banks to open up branches in Sudan.

Indian Ambassador to Sudan Deepak Vohra said the two countries should aim at enhancing bilateral trade, which stands at approximately US$350 million.

India's exports to Sudan were $317.84 million in 2005 while imports stood at $30.77 million, he said, adding the country aims to double its exports this year.
