Angola’s LNG project expected to produce 5 million tons per year

10-09-2007

The Angola LNG (liquid natural gas) project is expected to produce 5 million tons of gas per year, as of 2012, the country’s oil minister, Desidério Costa, said in Luanda.

While closing the II Conference and Regional Exposition on Surveying and Production in the Deep Waters off the West African Coast, the minister said that Angola would gain from environmental conservation as well as from the sale of gas.

Cited by Angolan news agency Angop, Costa said that Angolan government had prioritized the progressive reduction of the am
ount of gas burned off in oil activities, with the aim of using it entirely for domestic and industrial use by 2010.

The Oil minister said that the sector faced many challenges in the future, which required the implementation of more organized strategies, considering the development of the oil and gas sector on the African continent.

In order to reach this goal, he said it was essential for African oil producers to capitalize on the experiences of national companies, making them autonomous producers, leading groups and taking part in the entire oil business chain.
