Angola Would Accept 2.5 mbd Production Quota in 2008 From OPEC

10-03-2007

Angola, the newest member of the Organization of Oil Exporting Countries, would find an oil production quota of 2.5 million barrels a day starting next year acceptable, said a board member of Angolan state-owned hydrocarbons company Sonangol's Angola LNG Ltd., Fernando Roberto.

OPEC has said that Angola, which joined the group in January, will be assigned an oil output ceiling in 2008.

Roberto
, who spoke to reporters on the sidelines of the Lisbon Energy Forum, said there "is no problem for Angola if production is limited to 2.5 million barrels a day."

That is considerably higher than the 2-million barrel-a-day limit that some have been expecting.

Angola is sub-Saharan Africa's second-largest oil producer after Nigeria. It currently produces around 1.65 million barrels a day but hopes to lift output to 2 million barrels a day by next year
