Algeria's Sonatrach announces new oil strike

10-02-2007

Algeria’s national oil and gas company, Sonatrach, says it has made a new hydrocarbon discovery in the southern part of the country, the sixteenth since the beginning of the year.

The new discovery was made in the Berkine Basin, in the eastern erg, by the Sonatrach/Anadarko-Maersk partnership in the Zelmet En Naga perimeter (block 403c/e), Sonatrach said in a statement here Thursday.

The well (ZENN-1) is 3,611 metres deep in the Silurien, and from TAGI reservoir, 6.26 cubic metres per hour of oil with a 213 psi pressure at a 32/64 flow bean, according to the statement.

Of the 16 discoveries recorded by Sonatrach this year, six were made by the company independently and ten in partnership with other companies, the statement pointed out.
