Egypt Announces First Oil Discovery in the South

09-04-2007

Egyptian Ministry of Oil announced the country's first oil discovery in the sotuh.

A press release by the Ministry of Oil said that reserves of the newly discovered field, in Kom Ombo, Upper Egypt, 900 km south of Cairo, hit 8 million barrels daily with high quality.

It added that Minister Sameh Fahmai had demanded adding the
discovery to Egypt's oil production map as soon as possible transporting crude oil to Assuit refineries, also in Upper Egypt.

Fahmi noted that discovering oil in southern Egypt would open up fresh prospects to search for more oil in that area.
