Total Inaugurated New Platform For Moho-Bilondo Oil Field in Congo

A new platform belonging to the French oil company Total E & P for Moho-Bilondo oil field, offshore the Republic of Congo was inaugurated in port Pointe Noire. The ceremony was attended by the French Secretary of state for Cooperation, Mr Alain Joyandet and President Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo.

Moho-Bilondo oil field, the first deep Congolese field offshore, is situated at 80 km off the coast at depths ranging between 500 and 700 metres, the project manager, Claude Cahuzac, said.

It is equipped with a floating production unit (Fpu) 188 metres long, 34 metres wide and weighing 28,000 tonnes. The first oil drop of Moho-Bilondo arrived on 27 April at the Djeno terminal, south of Pointe Noire.

It is considered the highest technological achievement ever made by Total in the high sea in Congo.

"Within two years, this field will reach its maturity bringing about 90,000 extra oil barrels. The country's production will be increased by 35% as compared to t he current production," the Director-General of Total E & P Congo, Guy Maurice said.

With reserves estimated at nearly 230 million barrels, Moho-Bilondo is going to strengthen the action of Total, the leading oil exploration company in Congo.
