Production From Al-Jurf Oil Field in Libya to Remain Shut

05-22-2008

Libyan Officials announced that the 45,000 barrels a day production from al-jurf oil field have been halted for almost a month due to difficulties to repair the B-12 well. It may take two more months to resume the output.

"It's a big damage," Shokre Ghamen, chairman of NOC Libya said. "It will take a month or two. The whole field should stay shut for safety reasons."

"Output was shut in after equipment drilling the B-18 gas- injection well ran off course and damaged the B-12 production well," Total spokesman Kevin Church said. "operations should resume in several weeks." Gas injection helps increase the yield of the oilfield.

The al-Jurf deposit is located 100 kilometers (62 miles) off western Libya at a depth of 90 meters (295 feet). National Oil has a 50 percent stake, Total holds 37.5 percent and Wintershall AG owns 12.5 percent.
