FCP Says Algeria's Minister
'Concerned' Over Anderson's Removal
04-07-2008
First Calgary
Petroleums Ltd. said the Minister of Energy and Mines of Algeria has expressed
his 'concerns' over recent public developments and the proposed board changes at
the company, in particular the possible removal of chief executive and president
Richard Anderson.
Dissident
shareholders Waterford Finance & Investment Ltd and Midocean Holdings Ltd have
proposed resolutions to amend the company bylaws and remove Anderson, scheduled
to be voted on at an EGM Tuesday April 8-2008.
In a letter to the oil and gas company published by First Calgary on
Monday, the Algerian minister, Dr Chakib Khelil, said that any delays to the
development of the MLE oil and gas project would be 'harmful' to the
relationship between Algeria's state-run Sonatrach and First Calgary Petroleums.
Khelil added
that he 'would look negatively at any changes at this critical time,' according
to the letter.
First Calgary
is urging shareholders to reject the proposals to remove Anderson.
A
letter from The Minister of Energy and Mines of Algeria, Dr. Chakib Khelil,
addressed to Mr. Garfield Emerson, Chairman of the board of directors of FCP.
The letter states:
"Dear Mr. Emerson,
I am deeply concerned about the recent public developments and proposed
board changes at FCP, in particular the removal of Mr. Anderson. I value
the work done by the Sonatrach and FCP management teams and would look
negatively at any changes at this critical time. Any delays to the
development of the project would be harmful to the Sonatrach FCP
relationship.
Sincerely yours,
The Ministry of Energy and Mines
Dr. Chakib Khelil"
