Philip G. Behrman, senior vice
president of Worldwide Exploration for Marathon Oil Corporation, has elected to
retire effective mid-year 2008. Until then, Behrman will continue to serve in
his existing role and an announcement on his successor will be made at a later
date.
"A key measure of Marathon's success is our ability to replace our oil and gas
resources at a rate that exceeds the rate at which we produce these resources,"
said Clarence P. Cazalot, Jr., Marathon president and CEO. "Under Phil's strong
leadership, Marathon's exploration program has consistently achieved top-tier
results since 2002. These results include 43 significant discoveries from 2002
through 2007 and significant resource additions during this period. These
discoveries will contribute substantial growth to Marathon's overall upstream
business for several years to come.
"We thank Phil for all of his contributions to our success and wish him and his
family the very best in their upcoming retirement," added Cazalot.
Prior to joining Marathon in 2000, Behrman had served since 1996 as exploration
manager for Vastar Resources Inc.'s Gulf of Mexico deepwater division. While
with Vastar, he assumed the additional responsibilities of acting-vice president
of Exploration and Land in 2000.
He began his career in 1978 in Unocal's geothermal division and subsequently
gained more than 15 years of experience with BP in a range of exploration and
production assignments throughout the United States.
Behrman holds a bachelor's degree in geology from the University of California
at Los Angeles and a doctorate in geology from the University of California,
Berkley.
