BP Makes Gas Discovery at Record Depth in Nile Delta
02-05-2008
The UK's BP has made a gas discovery at record depths in the Nile Delta. The Satis discovery was made in the North El-Burg offshore concession, 50 kilometres north of Damietta.
The well was drilled to a depth of more 6,500 metres, a record for the Nile Delta, in a water depth of 90 metres.
BP is the concession operator with IEOC, the Egyptian affiliate of Italy's Eni, as partner.
Satis is BP's third deep gas find in the area. It made its first discovery in 2003 on the Raven field. This was followed by a 2007 discovery in the Taurus Deep field.
Both the Raven and Taurus Deep fields are within the North Alexandria A concession. BP is the operator and Germany's RWE is the concession partner
